Method 1:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the Programs tab.
3. Ensure that the "Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default" check box is checked, click Apply, and then click OK.
4. Close Internet Explorer, re-open Internet Explorer, and then click Yes when you receive the following prompt.
Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Do you wish to be it the default? Click Yes.
5. Restart your Computer.
If the issue persists you may perform the steps provided below:
Method 2:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs
3. Click on Set Program Access and Defaults
4. Select the Custom pull down list
5. In the Choose a default Web browser: section, choose Internet Explorer, then Select the "enable access to this program checkbox"
6. Click ok

If the issue persists you may perform the steps provided below:
Method 3:
1. Click on this link: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/defaultbrowser.reg (Or Copy and Paste this address in the address bar of Internet explorer)
2. Download this file to the Desktop or any other folder that you like.
3. Double left click the defaultbrowser.reg file, when asked if you want to add the information to the Registry click: Yes
4. Restart the computer
You may download and install free "Default browser" software from the web site provided below:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/defaultbrowser.htm
If the issue persists, you may download and install free "SetBrowser 1.4" software from the web site provided below:
http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/setbrowser/
Or click on the link provided below to download "SetBrowser 1.4" software on your computer
http://www.pc-tools.net/files/win32/freeware/stbrws14.exe
If the issue persists you may perform the steps provided below:
Method 4:
1) Click on Start, click on Control Panel
2) Click on tools, click on Folder Options, and select File Types
3. In the "Registered File Types" box, click "URL:File Transfer Protocol", and then click Advanced.
4. In the Actions box, click Open, and then click Edit.
5. The "Application Used To Perform Action" box may display the path to your Web browser as a short file name. Type the path to your Web browser using the full long file name. For example, change:
"c:\progra~1\intern~1\iexplore.exe" (without the quotation marks)
-To-
"c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe" (include the quotation marks).
6. Click OK, click OK again, and then click Close.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the following registered file types:
- URL:Gopher Protocol
- URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol
- URL:Hypertext Transfer protocol with Privacy
8. Click Close.
If the issue persists you may perform the steps provided below:
Method 5:
1) Click on Start, click on Control Panel
2) Click on Tools, click on Folder Options, and select File Types
3) Look for URL - Hyper Text Transfer Protocol & URL - Hyper Text Transfer Protocol - Privacy
4) Click on URL - Hyper Text Transfer Protocol
5) Click on "Advanced"
6) Click on "Edit"
7) Change the "Application to perform action" Line to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome %1
8) Made sure the "Use DDE" has the following info in each line
DDE Message : "%1",,-1,0,,,,
Application: IExplore
Topic: WWW_OpenURL
9) Click "OK" Twice, and then do the same on the other file type
10) URL - Hyper Text Transfer Protocol - Privacy
11) Follow steps 5 through 9
12) Then click on Close
If the issue persists you may perform the steps provided below:
Method 6:
1) Click on Start, click on Control Panel
2) Click on Tools, click on Folder Options, and select Click the File Types tab.
4. Under Extension, locate the "N/A" entry, and then locate the "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol" entry under File Types.
5. Click Advanced.
6. Under Actions, edit Open and remove the tick in DDE, press OK. select Open
7. Click Set Default, and then click OK two times
8. Do that for URL: HyperText with security also and maybe for HTML HTM if still doesn't work.
If the issue persists, I would suggest that you uninstall Netscape, Fire fox or any other Browser Programs from your computer and perform the steps provided above.
